Twigs and summer jobs...

The twigs were working machines this summer.

Hunter had two jobs. His full-time job was working outside all day.
His hair got lighter (if that was possible) and his skin got darker.

He'd come home after work and play ball with the dog
until the next thing you knew he was dead asleep.

We sure enjoyed his entertaining stories around the dinner table.

One day he came home with scrapes and punctures on his legs
and a huge appreciation for Russian Olive Trees and their crazy thorns.

His second job was working several evenings a week at our friends
Hokulia Hawaiian Shave Ice stand.

I think if you asked him, totally his favorite thing about his jobs this summer
was the people he got to work with.    :)

Our girlie only had one job this summer but it was a doozie.
She worked 72-hour weeks as a counselor at a BSA Cub Scout Day Camp.

Just like her brother, her hair got lighter and her skin got darker.
She was conscientious to not take pictures while working
(and I couldn't stalk her like I did her brother to snap a few pictures)
so she only got a couple selfies of the staffers on the bus ride home.

She's crazy about children so working with them all day
was a dream come true for her!

(These pictures are from the Camp Website.)

We loved her entertaining stories around the dinner table too.
More than once she got a tear in her eye while telling
about her fun times with the children.

Like her brother, if you asked her, she'd say her favorite thing
about her summer job was the people.  :)

Gonna eat a lot of peaches...

It's peach pickin' and eatin'  and freezin' time, yum!

We have a little peach tree that gives everything it's got.
This is less than 1/3 of its fruit.

Our little tree seems to throw caution to the wind, it has no fear,
producing hundreds of beautiful peaches, jeopardizing its existence
by filling it's branches so full of fruit they risk splitting the tree right in half.  Producing peaches is it's job and it embraces the job wholeheartedly.

Seriously, that little tree inspires me.
It reminds me of Christ's teachings about good trees and good fruit.

"...every good tree bringeth forth good fruit...
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit,
neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit...
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."  - Matthew 7:17-20

We have a good tree and it's knocking it out of the park!!
We love you little peach tree.
Thank you for your good fruit and your good example.  :)

It's been a long time coming...

I wrote here  about our birdhouse and it's visitors this spring,

and here  about that intruder. He and his band stayed around,
set up house in our trees, and had babies of their own,
all the while chasing off any sparrows or finches that showed interest in our birdhouse.
It was so strange.

Then one day the intruder and his marauding band were gone and this happened.

It was a long time coming which made it all the sweeter.

The whole neighborhood seemed to come for the happy event.
